Biografia
Is from San Francisco, California. She studies Literature and Feminist Studies at the University of California, Santa Cruz. She enjoys art, hiking, and reading. She has been drawing and painting since she was 13.
The stay in Rome at the University of California, Rome (URL) made me see the colors of the painting studio of the "artebottega" and I was fascinated.
Carrie è di San Francisco, California. Studia letteratura e femminismo a la Università di California, Santa Cruz. Si diverte a leggere, occuparsi di arte, ed escursionismo. Disegna e dipinge da quando ha 13 anni anni.
Il soggiorno a Roma all'Università della California, Rome (URL) mi ha fatto incontrare i colori dello studio di pittura dell'Associazione "artebottega" e sono rimasta affascinata.

An artist in her real ... "world" of genuine interest
I knew through her words her interest to culture in general: art, literature and her wish to learn about nature and places. But I had no knowledge of Carrie’s art works, that she has peformed at her home in California before becoming our guest. The vision of these art-works (only two that we publish in the archive) occurred one month after she left our studio, made me better understand her peaceful approach and capacities in the practical use of tools and materials I had proposed her to undertake this journey with Roman art.
Forced by the need to follow the advice and issues and the new Italian reality and although the usual problems of language understanding (I don’t speak Inglese you don’t speak Italiano) Carrie and I undertook this new "experiment" which was accepted by Carrie with humility, who pretended not to know the subject in order not to contradict the teacher (me).
But the result is even more evident, these mixtures of primary colors imposed by Carrie never used before, have shown that even if the works carried out in a very short time, they were lighted up by the "Roman School of the twentieth century” light, leaving intact her inspiration and creativity, which is firmly rooted in her, as it is for an artist and expert.
For her pressing and important commitments in study, it was not possible to work much together ... and this is a big disappointment for me ... but the satisfaction of seeing the images of her American paintings which have confirmed her to be an artist, her original technique and modern fantasy and creativity have made me proud to have gained such a sensitive and genuine student.
Dearest Carrie the distance of our places of origin will never cancel the mutual love for art and the ability to express ourselves with color and heart.

Un’artista concreta … nel suo “mondo” di interessi genuini
Conoscevo attraverso le sue parole, l’attenzione per la cultura in generale: la letteratura l’arte e l’interesse per la conoscenza della natura e i luoghi. Ma non avevo una conoscenza visiva, delle opere che Carrie, prima di essere nostra gradita ospite, aveva eseguito nelle mura domestiche in California. La visione di quest’ultime (solo due che pubblichiamo nell’archivio) avvenuta a distanza di un mese da quando ha lasciato il nostro studio, ci ha fatto meglio comprendere, il suo sereno approccio, e la praticità nell’utilizzo degli strumenti e i materiali che gli avevo proposto, per intraprendere insieme questo viaggio artistico Romano.
La forzata necessità di seguire i consigli e le tematiche, della nuova realtà italiana, con i soliti problemi di comprensione del linguaggio (no speak english io e altrettanto lei l’italiano) ci hanno portato comunque ha intraprendere questa nuova “sperimentazione forzata” da Carrie accettata con umiltà, pur di non contraddire il maestro (io), come fingesse di non conoscere la materia.
Ma il risultato è ancor più evidente, queste miscele di colori primari imposti mai usati prima da Carrie, hanno fatto sì che le opere anche se eseguite in pochissimo spazio di tempo, si illuminano di una luce da “Scuola Romana del novecento”, lasciando intatto il suo estro e la creatività, che è ben radicata in lei, come un’artista consapevole ed esperta.
Per i suoi pressanti e importanti impegni di studio, non è stato possibile fare più di tanta esperienza insieme… e questo per me è un grande rammarico… ma la soddisfazione di vedere nelle immagini ricevute dei suoi quadri “americani”, la conferma della sua consapevolezza di artista, la sua tecnica originale e moderna, la fantasia e la creatività mi hanno reso orgoglioso di averla avuta come “allieva sensibile e genuina”.
Carissima Carrie la distanza dei nostri luoghi di origine non potrà mai dissolvere, il reciproco amore per l’arte e la capacità di esprimerci con il colore e con il cuore.
